Change Begins With One: 13 Ways to Get Involved This #NoPornovember

By November 1, 2019 November 20th, 2019 No Comments

#NoPornovember is here, and it’s off to an amazing start! On Day 1, we activated the #NoPornovember challenges, and released the much-anticipated limited edition merch! Needless to say, this year’s annual month-long awareness is going to bring the movement to more people than ever, but we need your help.

We want to give you some tips and resources so you can join the party all November long. All month we’ll be releasing new content and unveiling new ways that people around the world can change the conversation about pornography. And don’t forget about our annual #RepTheMovement Day on Friday, November 22!

Here are 13 ways you can be a part of changing the conversation this month:

1. Join our #NoPornovember challenges

Take part in one of our two challenges to learn more about the movement and change perceptions about porn. It’s an event that’s happening all month long, so check out our landing page keep up with everything!

•Change Begins With One Challenge: For Fighters who want to speak up and create real change! We challenge you to check out our Get The Facts articles this month to become well-rounded in your knowledge of what we’re fighting for. Share, repost, or retweet something that speaks to you. Help others get educated by bringing the movement to them.

•30 Days Without Porn Challenge: Have you ever thought about giving up porn for good? Try it this month for 30 days to see what can happen. Feeling like you need some support to accomplish it? 2. Film a submission for our Fighter Pledge video

This year is our 10th as an organization. 10th! That’s one whole decade of fighting for real love. And 5 million Fighters later, we’re continuing to grow and spread across the globe. To commemorate our 10th year, we want to celebrate the people who made it happen: you, our Fighters. One of the ways we’re doing that this month is to make a video compilation of as many people as possible saying the Fighter Pledge. If you haven’t signed the Pledge, you can do that now by clicking here.

The pledge details what it means to be a Fighter, and adds you to our global army of supporters so you can get updates on how to get more involved in the movement. Join the fight and help us spread the word that porn affects the consumer, damages relationships, and negatively affects society as a whole.

If you want to be in our video, follow these steps below:

  1. Most importantly, we need to be able to hear you without any noise in the background.
  2. Be sure to wear your Fighter gear and display it clearly.
  3. Please film with your camera set up horizontally and have your hands empty! (So set the camera on a tripod or have a friend film you)
  4. Speak to and look at the camera! Try not to read the pledge. If you don’t have it memorized, put a paper with it right next to the camera and say each sentence right to the camera.
  5. Have fun!
  6. How to submit:
    a) Send in a direct message on Instagram @fightthenewdrug
    b) Submit via Google Form

5. Host a screening of our three-part docuseries

For the last few years, we’ve traveled around the world and interviewed experts and former porn performers, and captured real stories and experiences from those who have struggled with porn.

Last #NoPornovember, we launched our first-ever three-part documentary series: Brain, Heart, World. Now, we’re inviting our Fighters everywhere to host screenings at their homes, apartments, universities, or even just with your family. Click here to watch the film for free and invite others to join you!

Given the ever-growing body of research, it can no longer be denied that repeated porn exposure has a tangible effect on consumers, and is connected to declining relationship satisfaction as well as various forms of exploitation. This isn’t a moral argument, it’s simply something to consider given the facts. Brain, Heart, World exists to provide people with the opportunity to make an educated decision regarding pornography by highlighting its documented neurological, relational, and societal harmful effects.

8. Get limited edition Fighter gear

Each #NoPornovember we release a limited edition tee to commemorate our activism and remind our Fighters that change begins with one.

In 2015, it was a teal “Porn Kills Love” colorway. In 2016, we launched a charcoal and metallic gold design that sold out in one day, and then brought it back for good in 2017. In 2017, we introduced our first ever 80’s/90’s inspired PKL design. And last year, for the 5th anniversary of our “Porn Kills Love” classic red tee, we released a special edition blackout tee.

This year, we released not one but two exclusive limited tees to commemorate the 10th anniversary of our organization and our ripple effect around the world! Check them out:

But hurry—they’re selling out fast! Each year, our tees have sold out, and once they’re gone, they are gone!

9. Join the Street Team

Consider this. Thanks to decades of studies from major institutions, there is an ever-growing body of research demonstrating significant negative impacts of pornography consumption for individuals, relationships, and society.

Why not apply the same consideration we have for what we consume and do to something that could very well actually be harming us and those we love? Why not consider the science that says porn is harmful before saying “yes” to consuming it?

This is not some sort of moral argument, it’s just something to think about. So, give it a minute, and consider the risks. Consider before consuming.

This #NoPornovember is all about “Changing the Conversation” about porn, and there is perhaps no better way to do that than joining our global Street Team or grabbing an exclusive Rock the Basics kit. When you become a Street Team Fighter (kit pictured below), or rep a Rock the Basics kit, you go a step further and become the movement.

By joining the team or grabbing a kit, you get the amazing opportunity to make a real and meaningful impact in this fight, right in your own city. We’ll send you some rad gear that you can wear, post, and share. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple act to help start a conversation. Get started—become a foot soldier in the fight for love by grabbing this information-packed kit or joining the Porn Kills Love Street Team! Plus, you get gear that can’t be found separately in our store.

Now, we’re adding a new resource to our growing resources: Fight the New Drug’s first-ever podcast.

In each episode of Consider Before Consuming, we’ll discuss the science and research behind the negative effects of pornography so we can better understand the issue and help connect people with the facts they need to make an informed decision on porn.

Our host, Garrett Jonsson, will interview an expert, public figure, survivor, or fellow Fighter about their thoughts or personal experience surrounding this topic in each unique episode. You might laugh, you might cry, but you’ll definitely think about how porn influences the world around you.
