Last week, multiple Rancho del Rey Middle School 7th grade students said their teacher accidentally showed porn to the entire class when he plugged his iPad into the projector. The Sweetwater Union School District said it took immediate action after the class ended Thursday morning when students reported what they saw, but many students claimed this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in his class.

“We were doing our daily routine where he would check the homework and we would watch KDKR—that’s the daily news channel,” Dylan Lazo, a student in his class, said in an interview with ABC 10 News. “Then he turned on the big screen and we saw what was on the iPad. He was watching gay porn with two men having sex… It was up for a good 30 seconds because he was trying to figure out what to do. When he saw our reaction he said, ‘What the heck? Who put this on there?'” Lazo said. “I felt shocked and awkward for the rest of the day because I don’t think a responsible teacher would do something like that.”

And this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in front of students during school hours at the southern California middle school. Not long ago, a different student complained online about the same teacher doing “inappropriate stuff” on the computer in class. Apparently, the teacher tried to show an educational video, but instead accidentally went to a different tab on his internet browser that was on one of the world’s largest porn sites, Pornhub.

The student, now graduated from his class, said the teacher tried to play it off as if nothing had happened. The student’s mom said her son told her about the incident last year, and that there are plenty of other students at Rancho del Rey Middle School who have had very similar experiences with him.

Now that this story is gaining traction, more and more former students are speaking out about his less than great track record on Twitter:

The name of the teacher hasn’t been released because he has not been arrested or charged by police. The school district says they’re conducting an “internal investigation” about the incident.

As an organization dedicated to educating and raising awareness on the real harmful effects of pornography, we are sincerely disturbed when thinking about a middle school teacher watching anything that could be construed as inappropriate in a school setting. As we know from the thousands of personal accounts we receive from all over the world, a child’s first exposure to pornography can often lead to a long-term struggle. Schools should be a safe place for kids, and when teachers are watching inappropriate videos at schools full of middle schoolers, it is no longer a safe zone.
